Luiz Felipe Scolari believes we need to adopt a different style of play when trying to break down visiting sides at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian has overseen five wins from five in the league away from home, but the same number of games at the Bridge have yielded just eight points with draws against Tottenham and Manchester United, followed by defeat against Liverpool last weekend.

Scolari has attributed this to an inability to break down resilient visiting times.

'Clubs that play at Stamford Bridge play many at the back, with eight or nine players back, and they come here to play for a draw,' he began.

'If it's possible, one time by a corner, by foul, or counter attack, maybe they make one goal. We didn't create very good situations to arrive in front of goal, and many times we arrive, and we make a mistake. When you create three or four situations and don't make a goal, surely you don't win the game.'

It has been put to the manager that the players may be nervous for home games, particularly while the 86-game unbeaten run was ongoing, but he feels this is inaccurate and believes a change in playing style may produce more effective results when faced with defensive opponents.

'No they are not anxious. The clubs we play against make it difficult. We play in 40 metres, with 16 or 18 players in that area. Maybe sometimes you dribble past one player and have two more in front. It's very difficult.

'We need to change sometimes the style. When I started here in Chelsea I said I want one player that tries something different when we play against closed teams. Now we have a style of play, and we need to play with this style. They give more chances to us to play. When we play away we have more opportunities and space.

'If you follow the games how many fouls near the area do we have? One per game. I want them to dribble more at full-backs, because they kick my players and I have good players to shoot these balls - Deco, Lampard, Alex and other players - but we don't have fouls.

'I want more players to make something different because I have good players for one system but I need sometimes to change this system. I need to work every day on the pitch here to change, to improve sometimes and make something different.'

Fortunately, the same problems have not been encountered on the road. Scolari offered a reasonable argument why.

'Away, the opponent teams are open more and try to play more, they are at home and the fans pressure them,' he said.

'Here, no. We need more quality, more creativity and need to make the first goal. After this we have a good position to win.'

The facts back him up. In the 11 games where we have scored first this season, we have gone on to win 10, so do not be surprised if the Blues come out quickly against Sunderland today.
